San Diego / Amusement Park / "Casa De Pico"

Last Friday was a FUN day...!!!

We drove into San Diego - and went to "old fashioned" Belmont Amusement Park!  It sits right on the coast - and according to the plaque at the entrance - the original park started around 1925 - when the wooden "Big Dipper" Roller Coaster was built.  It survived for many years - including WW2 - but went under in 1976.  After about a decade and a half of trying to renovate the Coaster and secure funding, Belmont re-opened again in the early 90's and has been thriving since!  It was a perfect family outing for us - with bumper cars and a carousel and a few other rides - but the highlight was riding several times, all six of us, the old wooden "Dipper"!!

In the evening we went to "Casa De Pico" Mexican Restaurant.  Martha and I had visited some friends in SD about 16 years ago.  They took us to this restaurant, then located in the old downtown area.  It has new digs now - next to a shopping mall - with lots of space - and the still have a small roaming Mariachi Band.  We were excited to get a table on the patio since it was such a beautiful evening.  I'm glad we took the time to track it down again.  Thanks goes out to Annelie (Nielsen) Heinen for helping us find this place again...!!

They have pretty good mexican food!  It was nice to talk to the waiters in spanish...  This place is most famous for it's huge "Birdbath Margaritas".  There was no way I was getting one of those - so Martha and I shared a small one.  I enjoyed it more than she did....  (Grin!)
